Speech Pathology Services

Therapy services to support communication goals

What is a Speech-Language Pathologist?

A Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) is a university-trained health professional who assesses, diagnoses, and treats communication and swallowing disorders across all ages. They support individuals with difficulties in speaking, understanding language, reading, writing, voice, fluency (such as stuttering), and feeding or swallowing. They provide personalised care that supports their communication and quality of life in familiar environments.

Tailored Services in Key Clinical Areas

At Making Waves, our speech pathology services are currently tailored to support children focussing on key areas of clinical interest. While we don’t offer the full range of traditional speech pathology services, we specialise in assessing and supporting children to achieve their communication goals in the following areas:

Speech Sounds

Helping children develop clear and accurate speech sounds for effective communication by targeting articulation (physical ability to produce the correct sound with the mouth) and phonology (the representation of sounds in the mind).

Pre-reading and Literacy Skills

Supporting children with literacy difficulties by building essential skills including letter-sound knowledge, phonological awareness skills, segmenting and blending sounds, writing, spelling, and comprehension through tailored, evidence-based speech pathology interventions.

Expressive Language

Supporting children in building strong written and verbal language skills including vocabulary and sentence structures to effectively communicate their message.

Receptive Language

Support children's understanding of words, concepts, sentences and stories to be able to understand instructions and others in conversation.
